Meet Morgan Patterson

I am a woman who has been called to the Spiritual life since I was a youngster.   I  have been practicing meditation for the last 47 years.  Formal meditation which is sitting for hours, and papying close attention to my breath as my anchor to the Sacred.  This has allowed me to have a connection to the Source that is breathing as and through me, and really all things.  It has given me a way to feel supported even when life becomes chaotic and feels as if I am being buffeted by mighty storms.  That is where the name of this site and my business truly comes from.  Breathe the Sacred into the Storm.  Always there.

I have trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and I teach this to high school students, and have also taught it in the woman's prison system.  Having a way to find some calm within the confines of a prison is a wonderful gift.

I have led many women's circles, gathering in community for ceremony and sisterhood.

I am an avid pilgrim which started really at the age of 60.  I walked across Spain, the Camino de Santiago.  This is a 500-mile pilgrimage. I am an author of   "Are you the Christ",  Finding goodness in yourself and others.  A way to practice non-judgment.

Thanatology is the science and study of death and dying from multiple perspectives—medical, physical, psychological, spiritual, ethical, and more.  I have worked in the ER for 25 years and as a Hospice nurse, and have a deep connection with the families and people who are making this transition.

I have been called to share the connection with Spirit, reminding others of their wholeness and holiness for years.  If you believe that your life is wonderful, yet you may have this feeling that is calling you to connect deeply or deeper to who you truly are.  Maybe your life is not so wonderful.  Maybe you have the knowledge that there is something missing.  I know there have been times when I have totally forgotten that there is a part of myself that brings me answers and comfort. So if you find yourself being pushed or pulled to make some changes.  To find some hope, peace, forgiveness, or would love someone to share prayer, ritual, or ceremony with, I would love to meet you.

Spirituality and health are connected. Just as physical wellness describes health in the body, spiritual wellness describes health in the spirit.

Spiritual wellness can relate to religious beliefs. Some people link their spiritual wellness to the natural world. Others define it by their relationships with others. Still, others may nurture spiritual wellness by living a fulfilling life according to their personal values.

However spiritual wellness is defined, it involves a connection between people and something greater than themselves. This could be a higher power, a person’s own sense of meaning and purpose, or values or belief systems.

Emotional and mental health, physical health, and spiritual health are all part of total wellness. The mind and body are connected, so when wellness in one area is lacking, other areas of health might be affected.

For example, a person who develops a chronic health condition may not feel optimistic about their health improving. If they become unable to work, enjoy hobbies, or take care of activities of daily life on their own, they may struggle to find meaning in life. These feelings could contribute to depression or anxiety.

People in good spiritual health may:

  • Be hopeful and optimistic, even when things are difficult

  • Have compassion and empathy for others

  • Have defined values and live according to them

  • Have a strong sense of self-worth

  • Be more able to forgive others and themselves easily

  • Feel peaceful or in harmony with nature, life, and the world

  • Find solace in meditation or religious rituals like worship and prayer

People struggling with spiritual wellness might:

  • Feel empty or as if life lacks meaning

  • Often feel anxious or unsettled

  • Often feel as if they need to improve themselves

  • Feel unconcerned or uncaring about life

  • Judge themselves and others quickly and/or harshly

  • Find self-compassion and self-forgiveness difficult

  • Lack a sense of inner peace

  • Lack a sense of belonging





"This Sunday I had a profound worship experience, but it had nothing to do with the church services I attended.  It wasn't a walk in the woods, a sunrise by the sea, or a view from a mountain summit.  I worshiped by reading Morgan Patterson's breath taking new book:  Are You the Christ!

Patterson's call to worship is a challenging one - asking us to see the Christ in others, especially those who we would normally fear, ignore or revile.  In a series of photographs that accompany her short essays, Patterson shows us the faces of those who are unlikely saviors for others or for themselves.

The essays are interspersed with powerful poems by Sufi Master Hafiz, calling us to see God and encounter the divine in the rhythms of everyday life.

Of course Patterson also includes a few faces of the Christ that might be more easily recognizable - he husband, a spiritual teacher, a physician.  But it is the unexpected, unlikely ones that call to me more uregently, that challenge me to exam the ways in which my heart is not yet opened deeply enough, fully enough to welcome God - and myself- into holy communion.
